I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  I can't believe the holiday season is already upon us.  What happened to the fall????   Tonight is our Art Show and Holiday Chorus Concert.  It is an exciting night and we hope to see everyone there!  Your Special teachers have  been working hard to make this a great evening.  

ATTENTION ALL FOURTH GRADERS~  We will not be playing recorders any more after the Holiday break.  We have our North Carolina Symphony Concert in March and we need to prepare for what we will be seeing and hearing.  This is an amazing field trip and we are fortunate that through all of the budget cuts the county still pays for all of the fourth grader's seats.  All we have to pay for is the bus drivers and gas.  That usually runs about $4 a student.  I will be sending home permission slips and  payment information in January.  

I hope you take the time to stop and enjoy the sights and sounds of the holiday season.  There are so many wonderful opportunities to take in the Arts here in Raleigh!!!

Greetings!!!  I have some very exciting news.  Our December 1st Chorus concert will be a part of ALL ARTS NIGHT at DRES.  The evening will start at 5:30 with our student art work on display for purchase and a Spanish Class powerpoint running in the media center.  We will perform at 7:00pm on the stage in the gym.  This will be a wonderful evening to kick off the holiday/winter season.  I look forward to seeing everyone there!!!!!

Hello Everyone!!

I can't believe that we are wrapping up our 1st quarter.  I guess this year is going to fly by as fast as last year did!  You will notice that your student will not have a grade from the specialists on this report card.  We give our grades after the 2nd quarter and 4th quarter.  By doing this we have more time to complete assessments for such a vast number of students that we specialists teach. 

The fourth graders are doing better remembering to bring your recorders to music!  Good Job!!

The Chorus is continuing to meet on Tuesday mornings at 7:30.  We are sounding great!  I love the number of singers that are attending on a regular basis.  We have close to 80 singers every week.  I look forward to our concerts in December.  Remember to check out the dates under the chorus tabs and mark your calendars.  More info about this will be coming soon!

Hello DRES Musicians!!!

Recorders are selling like hotcakes.  They are in the school store for $5 and come in a variety of colors. If your 4TH GRADER  still needs to purchase a recorder, there are still some left but I recommend getting yours soon.  In another week I will allow other grade levels to purchase a recorder if they wish.  Once they are sold out I do not intend to buy any more. 

CHORUS REHEARSALS WILL BEGIN THIS TUESDAY, AUGUST 23!!!!  We begin at 7:30 so if you can bring your child in carpool that would be great.  If not then your singer just needs to come to the music room as soon as they get off the bus.  If your student gets breakfast in the morning then on Tuesdays he/she will need to eat at home.  There is not time for breakfast before OR  after chorus so please eat at home on Tuesdays.  If this is a problem then your student  just won't be able to participate in chorus.

Hello Everyone.... I hope you are all having a great start to the 2011-2012 school year.  It was good to see all you track 4 folks back today. 
The recorders for the 4th Grade are in!!!!  They come in beautiful colors of blue, red, gold, purple and green.  You may purchase your recorder in the school store! They are $5 a piece and come with a case, fingering chart and cleaning stick.  I am selling them ONLY to the fourth graders to begin with.  If we have some left over then I will allow other grade level students to buy them.  PLEASE PUT YOUR NAME ON BOTH THE RECORDER AND THE CASE WITH A PERMANENT MARKER!!!!!  Always try to remember to bring your recorder to class on your music day.  I would just keep it in your book bag at all times!!  This is going to be fun!

Hello and welcome back to another school year at Durant Road Elementary School.  I hope you enjoy my new website. Please check it regularly for updates!  Look for the Music Newsletter that should be coming home in today's Monday folder.  If you are a 4th or 5th grader and you are interested in joining chorus, please fill out the registration form on the bottom portion of the news letter.  Once chorus begins, I will post all communication on this website.
